I was delighted to see the photo of my great-great uncle, Samuel Perryman Cheek, on “The Cheek That Doth Not Fade” website. He was the brother of my great-great grandfather, the Reverend Marion Cheek (Isaac Marion), who was born in 1834 and was the youngest child of Ellis and Dorcas Attaway Cheek. Marion married Ann Judson Bowers, and they had Aaron R. Cheek, my grandfather. Aaron married Joanna Manley, and they had seven children, one of whom is my dear father, who is 98 years young.

He, my sister Sharon, and our families would be so happy to hear from you and determine how we are related. Please contact me via email when you have the opportunity.

Thank you very much, and we look forward to hearing from you.

    Anne Cheek Meyer

    Anne,
It is always good to hear from a new Cheek cousin. I will email you with more information about my branch of the family. If I have computed it correctly, we are 3rd cousins, once removed.

I am the daughter of Darwin Eugene Cheek, son of Lyman Ward Cheek. Did/does your dad go by Bob? When Lyman died, his wife, Winona Cheek, married Jack Brusstar, if it’s the same LWCheek. I’ve been trying to find out if Cheek was an Indian name?

      Nanci,
Moses Cheek was the uncle of my father, Vernon John Cheek, whose father, Aaron R Cheek, was Moses’
      brother.

Hi, Cheek cousins! Dorcas Attaway Cheek was my great-great-great-grandfather Rev. Freeman Hardy Attaway’s sister. Rev. War Soldier William Cheek was Ellis’ brother.
William married Sally and they had a son John Vines Cheek who married Aner Louisa Duncan. They had a son Samuel Cheek who married Margaret Teagle. Their daughter Nancy Cheek was my great-grandmother, married to Edward Washington Greeson, they were the parents of my grandfather Isaac Hugh Greeson who married Roxanne Floy Attaway, daughter of Charles Spurgeon Attaway and Luticea Peppers Attaway. Charles was a son of John Bunyan Attaway and Martha Hall. Charles’ grandfather was Rev. Freeman Hardy Attaway and Sarah Williamson Attaway. I would love to hear from all of you. I started a private Cheek/Teagle family website a year or so ago and still fishing for more “cousins”. I went to Rev. War Soldier William Cheek’s marker dedication a couple of years ago at Carroll’s UMC in Franklin County. I have also been to Bowersville and have posted photos of tombstones on the site. I live in Banks County, GA, just over from Franklin County.

Hello cousins, I am back on the grid and very excited to see new names. I am a gggr-grandaughter of Ellis and Dorcas Attaway Cheek via >John Bramlett > William Lumpkin – John Benjamin (JB) > Sylvester Avery ( who’s birth we have since found was recorded incorrectly as Avery Sylvester) > myself. I hope to be reconnecting with you all and am curious about a few cousins that I have not seen postings from in quite a while. I have also heard from a cousin I met in 2004 that has decided to get serious about researching. So, with that all said, I love the pic of Samual Perryman and with modernized technology as it is, I hope we can share more pics and family ties.

I forgot I had been on this site before. I had e-mails from you and lost everything in my computer 2 or 3 years ago, including all my e-mails. I think I might have told you that his mother Dorcas was a sister of Freeman Hardy Attaway. He was my great-great-great-grandfather. If you are still on ohere, would like to hear from you.

Vincent, who are you referring to as Bud? Do you know actual 1st name. My gr grandfather lived in Canon. I have seen the Bowers/Cheek house in Lavonia. Do you know what date the home you purchased dates back to. Just curious, I recently purchased a 1931 house in Temple, Ga. I need to plan a trip back up to that area, would love to get a glimpse.

My dear father, Vernon John Cheek, son of Aaron R Cheek & Joanna
    Manley Cheek, & grandson
of Rev. Marion Cheek & Anne
Judson Bowers, was born in Canon,
GA on May 6, 1909. Precious Daddy
lived 99 years on this Earth & passed
away in September 2008. I remember-
bet, as a child, going to Lavonia to
    visit Daddy’s uncle Benjamin Cheek
& his aunt Josephine Cheek in their
    wonderful big two-story tan brick
home with its large green lawn,
its huge white pillars and big
    shutters. Uncle Ben served in
the GA State Legislature & was
    an excellent lawyer–but I remem-
ber him as a gentle & loving old
    man whose blue eyes always
    seemed to sparkle when my
    precious Mama, Ruth Born
    Cheek, my Daddy, & Sister
Sharon, & I visited on Sunday
    afternoons. My father’s other
uncles, who may have lived in
    Canon, Lavonia, & Toccoa,
    were named Moses Cheek,
    Jephtha (Jep) Cheek, & his
    aunt was named Tiny Cheek.
Do you recognize any of these
names or know how you may
    be related to them? Looking
    forward to your reply!

Hi all! Perryman Cheek’s sister, Priscilla Cheek, is my great great great grandmother. She married James Shockley Bates. Their son, Lorenzo Austin Bates is my great great grandfather. Frank M Bates is my great grandfather and Houston Bates my grandfather. My daddy, Jessie Bates is still with us and loves hearing stories I find about relatives. We welcome any info you may have.

Hello! Perryman’s sister Priscilla (Pyrssa, Prissilla) is my great(x4) grandmother. She and James Shockley Bates’ daughter Desteran “Dorothy” married William Marion Bailey. The daughter of these two, Fairlander “Ella” married William Howard Forester and had Lola Bell. Lola married John Mercer Strickland (my mother’s paternal grandfather). Does anyone know where Priscilla and James Shockley Bates are buried?
