About

The header picture is the family of Robert Bruce Cheek, probably taken in Mangum, OK around 1903. Robert Bruce is my great grandfather who moved to Oklahoma from Georgia before statehood. The tall, good-looking young man on the back row is my grandfather, Joseph Marion Cheek. The son on the left is my greatuncle, Robert Luther Cheek, who was killed in France during WWI. My great grandmother is Carrie Savannah Adams. Her father, Salathiel Adams, was killed at Vicksburg during the Civil War.

The blog title is taken from the Keat’s poem, Fancy. The full poem can be found at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cheekfamok/johnkeats.html

Hi. It was fun to find your site. I am just starting to search for our family. It seems we are related. I’v traced back to John Cheek father of Richard Cheek – father of James Cheek – father of William Martin Cheek – father of William Freeman Cheek – father of Larkin S. Cheek – father of Freeman Virgil Cheek – father of James Salvin Cheek – father of Tellus Thomas Cheek – father of Gerald Thomas Cheek who is my father and just passed away Dec. 23rd, 2009. I would love to know any more info that you might want to share. I’m sure I can fill in some for you too. Thanks!

Temi, I am a descendant of William through John Vines, his son Samuel, Samuel’s daughter Nancy. Ironically, Ellis Cheek married Dorcas Attaway, who happens to be my great-great-great-grandfather Rev. Freeman Hardy Attaway’s sister! So I guess we are somehow “doubles”. My great-grandmother Nancy Cheek married my great-grandfather E. W. Greeson. I have a private family website on Cheek family if you would like to be invited. There is no charge to you, and it is for family and friends by invitation only, not to the public. If you like, just send me your e-mail address, I’ll be happy to share. Thanks.
